School starts on Wednesday, August 23, 2023

Greetings to all Westside Academy Parents and Students,

PLEASE NOTE:

  • South-Western City School District is starting before our school district, we are not part of their district.

  • Remember there is NO PARKING in the drop-off and pick-up lanes. If you need to come into the office please park in the Tim Hortons middle parking lot and walk into the South entrance to the school's South door. The south parking lot is reserved for staff only.

Classroom Supply List: Please click on this link for the classroom supply list. Classroom Supply List

School Calendar: Please click on this link for the calendar https://5il.co/1w1q8

Start of School Day Drop off: Students can be dropped off from 7:45 to 8:15 am where they will walk on the sidewalk into the gymnasium. Even if you see a staff member or the doors are open, students must wait until 7:45 am. After 8:15 they will need to enter through the school's front door on the south side of the building. Please pull your car all the way up, next to the end of the sidewalk to drop off your child.

End of School pick up: The school day ends at 2:45 pm. Parents must get into the car line behind the buses to wait in line to pick up their children. Students will be called in the order of parents waiting in the pickup line after the school buses leave. DO NOT come into the building to pick up your students, they will be escorted to your car. You must call if you want someone to pick up your child. DO NOT walk through traffic or the pick-up line. Wait your turn.

Early pick up: If you need to pick up your child early due to an appointment you must call the office before 2:00 p.m. and be at the school prior to 2:30 p.m. Park in the Tim Hortons middle parking lot and walk into the front office.

Visiting the Office: If you need to come into the office please park in the Tim Hortons middle parking lot and walk into the front office. Do not park in the middle of the teacher’s parking lot, or park in a teacher's spot.

Kindergarten:  If you have a child who will be entering Kindergarten this school year, you must talk to the front office this week in order to register your new kindergarten student. Kindergarten enrollment is now on a list organized by a seat available on a first come, first seat basis. Please come into the office or call us by next week to reserve a spot for your student on the kindergarten list. Office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm. Please get in touch with Mrs. Naimo or Mr. Hassan to make an appointment to complete your child’s registration. The Kindergarten Parent Open House is scheduled for Monday, August 21st from 9 to 11 am. You will meet the teachers and can drop off school supplies.

NEW Students: For all other new students, in order to be fully registered you must bring all documentation listed on the front of the registration packet before school starts. All information must be submitted to be fully enrolled in Westside Academy.

Students Forms: For all currently enrolled students, you will need to fill out the enclosed Re-Enrollment Application, and Emergency Medical Form and bring in an updated Proof of Residence within the last 60 days. Please have your child bring it on the first day of school or you can drop it by the school office.

Bussing: If you need South-Western City School transportation you will need to contact Westside Academy to fill out an application for their bus service. Please note that the South-Western City Schools Transportation office is not taking in-person applications at this time. If you need Columbus City Schools transportation you can fill out the form in our office.

School clothing: Polo-style solid-color shirts are recommended. No bright or distracting designs are allowed on clothing. The shirt should cover the midsection of the body from the neck to past the waist, and arms covered over the shoulders. No pants or skirts above the knee. Pants should have no tears or holes. All students need closed-toe school shoes. NO SANDALS or high heel shoes. If your child wears a scarf it needs to be a solid color. Parents will be asked to bring other clothes if their child is dressed in clothing that is not acceptable. Younger students may want to pack a change of clothes to store in their cubby in case of accidents.

Hearing and Vision Screening: All kindergarten, first, third, fifth, and seventh graders will be screened for adequate vision and hearing. Referral forms will be mailed to parents when further evaluation by a physician is recommended.

If you have any questions please contact us at the above phone number and speak to one of the front office staff, Mrs. Naimo Mohamed, or Mr. Osman Hassan.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Heather O'Bannon

School Director
